Week 4 Discussion: Business Analysis and ROI

The question for this weeks discussion is, as the marketing expert, what do you think the key components are that a client would consider most important for technology and mobility solutions?

I think the number one thing a client is looking for is are they going to make money using technology and mobility solutions.  Are what you are planning for your client going to help them bring in new customers and keep customers returning.  Can you, as the marketing expert, come up with a plan that minimizes costs for the client while gaining a large return on investment.  Does the wifi solutions you come up with require minimal maintenance and easy setup or will it become a logistical nightmare? A companion app for your client can go a long way in making sure that their customers or fans enjoy and use the wifi or other mobile solutions you plan for your client.  We talked about wifi solutions for an arena and an app for an arena or team previously.  Taking what we discussed before in earlier posts, you have to have a reliable wifi setup that is easy to use for those that come to the stadium.  You also have to have an app that has great features that the customer or fan finds useful.  Allowing the fan to order concessions from their season ticket seats or allowing the fan to watch games on their app when they aren’t able to make it to a game.

Having these components come together and work well will ensure that the client is gaining a great return on investment.  This will help the client gain new customers through word of mouth when the arena’s wifi works flawlessly and when the teams app does what it is supposed to do.  If the customer is satisfied they will become repeat customers and this will ensure the client has the return on investment for years to come.

Week 3 Discussion: Designing for your brand

I would design an app for Android and iOS that is sponsored by the team, the arena and the wireless network company the arena uses for their wifi.  This app would have an iterative map built into so the fans could download this app and see the different areas of the arena before they even step foot into the arena.  This would show the fans what they are getting when they purchase season tickets.  All the seating for the arena would be accesible through the app and attached to each seating area would be a price point.  If a fan uses the app to purchase their season tickets they would be rewarded with something from the team and/or arena.  This reward could be a discount on the season tickets or free concessions at certain games that the fans that bought the season tickets could redeem.  The app would help the fan pick out the tickets that best fit their needs and budget.  It would also show them where different amenities are in the arena in relation to the seats that they are exploring, such as restrooms, concession stands, merchandise stands/stores, the bar or lounge, etc.

Also, for season ticket holders that purchase their season tickets with the app they will get access to something for the fan that just can’t make it to every game.  If for whatever reason the fan could not make it to any of the home games all the fan has to do is open up the app and they can watch a live stream of the game for free.  This would ensure that the fan does not have to miss any of the action that they would see while at the game.  This would only be available to those season ticket holders that purchased their season tickets using the official team app.

Discussion Post 2: Wireless Network Design

I believe that through a combination of both high speed wifi routers and hidden cell towers, a stadium or arena can achieve total coverage for cellular users at games and events.  Routers tend to get bogged down when the number of users accessing it become to great.  This is something that plagues stadiums because of the amount of fans that attend most games.  If fans were still able to get good speed while staying connected to their cellular network this could lighten the load for wifi routers in stadiums.  For areas that may not have direct access to cell towers in a stadium, like concourses that are usually underneath large amounts of concrete and steal, this would be ideal for wifi routers.  For other open areas, like most seating at a stadium, a few hidden cell towers could allow for coverage for everyone else.

Another problem that tends to come into play with wifi and routers are passwords.  Even when you sign in as a guest at some places they send you through a couple of other pages on your mobile web browser and want you to click through pages or ads.  This can become very annoying and frustrating and cause you to abandon this route and just stay connected using your cellular network.  If it was possible to just select the network and immediately begin using the wifi service that would make it a whole lot easier and quicker.

Week 1: DISCUSSION – History of Mobility/ Wireless Technology

Discussion Board Question – What wireless technology has had the greatest impact on today’s society and why.

The smartphone has had the greatest impact on today’s society.  Since 2007, more than one billions smartphones have been sold worldwide.  This has generated a worldwide revenue of over 264 billion dollars.  The smartphone not only does what its predecessors did, make calls and send texts, but now the smartphone can be your camera, your e-reader, your laptop, and your personal assistant.

The smartphone is continuing to evolve with every new phone that is released.  The market is saturated with tons of options from Apple’s iPhone to the numerous amount of Samsung, HTC and Sony smartphones.  All of them have their own sets of features and they all have their own following.  The operating systems for these phones, IOS and Android, continue to evolve as well to make them more functional for the user.

It won’t be long before almost every person has their own smartphone or has access to a smartphone.  These phones can do almost anything these days, from order food to helping you find your way to getting you a ride when you need it.  The applications that are being made for these phones just add to the ever expanding universe of the smartphone.

A special message from Derek Jeter

Hey Yankee fans, as you all know, this is going to be my last year playing in the major leagues.  I have enjoyed the last twenty years, especially with the great support from all of you.  It has been a pretty amazing ride, from winning five World Series Championships for our great city to representing the team at the All-Star game 13 times.  This season isn’t over yet though, so lets keep the support up and go for number 28 for the city.  You, the fans, have always had my back and always cheered for me in the good times and the bad.

I hope that through the rest of the season we can continue to get your support and also get more fans on board with the Yankees through our various social media sites and our team website.  Make sure to keep up with myself and the rest of the team on Twitter and Facebook.  We look forward to responding to your comments and questions throughout the rest of the season.  We are also planning on some video question and answer session with you guys.  Make sure you keep an eye out for that as well.

Come out to the stadium and cheer us on and as you use social media throughout the game, we will post some of your comments on the jumbotron behind center field.  We are also planning on running a few contests before the end of the season, and who knows, you might even get a chance to interview me one on one.  Lets keep this season alive with the help of all of you and we hope to see you at the ballpark soon.  Everyone in for #28.

Thanks everyone,

Derek Jeter

Bon Jovi Changes Concert Date

Bon Jovi has changed one of the dates for their MetLife Stadium concerts. The old date was July 24th and the new date is July 27th. News of the change of date was announced on the bands Facebook page as well as the MetLife Stadium website. A couple of reasons were given for the change in dates. One of those reasons was a “scheduling considerations” and the other reason was due to the continued absence of Richie Sambora. If it was due to scheduling maybe the band needed a day off in-between shows. Or maybe the band realized that a concert during the middle of the week would draw less of a crowd than having a show on a Saturday night in the middle of the weekend. The other reason, Richie Sambora, could be due to his “personal matter” being rehab or a falling out between Sambora and Jon Bon Jovi.

Depending on the exact reasoning, I could agree with the change of date. If the band needed a day off in-between performances, that is understandable. These guys aren’t that young anymore and they may need an extra day to recuperate from a show. The new show date being a Saturday could be good for ticket sales as well. More people have the weekends off and could get tickets and attend a show on a Saturday night rather than a weeknight where less people would be willing to attend because of work the next day. If the reason for the change of date is due to Richie Sambora going back into rehab or a falling out between Sambora and Jon Bon Jovi the band should have a plan in place for someone to take Sambora’s place on stage a play his parts throughout the concert.
